Where Do We Get Common Sense?

Recently, my sister and I had a discussion over the phone. In reply to something I said to her (I can’t even remember what it was), she stated, “God gives us common sense, you know.” That stopped me in my tracks. I don’t even recall where the remainder of the conversation went from there. That sentence has been thrown around forever, so it’s not anything I haven’t heard before. I have even always agreed with it. But this time, I felt disturbance in my spirit.

Now, why would this be? I pondered it at various times throughout the day and evening. By the next morning, with the thought still hopping around in my brain, Holy Spirit just spoke up and said, “Let me tell you about common sense. Notice the word ‘common.’ You are not a common people, you are a ‘peculiar’ people.” (Titus 2:14 – The King James Version uses “peculiar,” but The New King James Version uses “special.”)

Immediately after, he reminded me of 1 Corinthians 2:16, which says,

“FOR WHO HATH KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD, THAT HE MAY INSTRUCT HIM? But we have the mind of Christ.” (underline mine)

And then these two verses:

“That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him.” (Eph. 1:17)

“But of Him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification and redemption.” (1Cor. 1:30)

I have underlined the word “wisdom” in both verses. What He had shown me was that, not only do we have the mind of Christ, but the wisdom of God through Jesus Christ.

That is awesome!

Finally, He said one more thing: “Common sense is what man was reduced to when Adam sinned.”

I thought this was so cool that I had to share it with anyone interested. I welcome your thoughts.

Why Does Satan Hate Us?

It has been said that Satan hates us (Christians). Have you ever wondered why? I have. The question that has most swirled through my mind has been, “What did I ever do to Satan to make him hate me? If anything, he should have been happy to have had me as a slave for so long.

I went on the internet fo see what those who know exceedingly more than I do about it had to say. I found a couple reasons that make sense, and even backed by Scripture. One is, that it is his nature. Another is that he hates us because he hates God, and God loves us. One post says it’s because we have privileges that the devil never had.

Building on what the Bible says and my last post, could it be possible that Satan hates us because God gave us power over anything that comes under the curse? Satan actually wanted to be like God, too. But God gave that privilege to us, and now we have what the devil wanted.

Something to think about, isn’t it?
